We visited the current featured exhibit called Bricktionary: the ultimate LEGO A-Z at the Cincy Museum Center about a month ago. It was such a treat for both the adults and kids in our family to visit any LEGO exhibit since both of our boys have been avid LEGO builders at home. Jacob has grown out of it a couple of years ago, but James still loves playing with LEGO structures. Although I myself don’t play with LEGO bricks or models, I admire the creativity and patience required of people using tiny bricks to put together cumbersome structures and intricate scenes. Apparently, these days many adults find it therapeutic and relaxing to construct large models and dioramas with LEGO bricks. At the LEGO store in Oxmoor Mall in Louisville, we saw LEGO sets that cost hundreds of dollars targeted towards adult consumers such as the Star Wars dioramas, the Hogwarts castle, and dioramas from popular TV shows, etc.
This worldwide exhibit which premiered in Cincinnati was organized by the Brickman, a LEGO certified professional from Melbourne, Australia. Before entering the exhibit, we watched a charming introductory video about the Brickman in which he elaborated on his passion of building with LEGO bricks since childhood. He is one of the only 20 LEGO certified professionals in the world and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere.
Although this has not the overwhelming magnitude of Legoland, but we were still mesmerized by all the LEGO creations on display. Whereas it would have taken us two days to walk through all the exhibits in Legoland, it only took us two hours to admire everything at Bricktionary. We all greatly enjoyed this exhibit, feasting our eyes on all the fun, creative and refreshingly entertaining models there. The builders even imbued their sense of humor into the dioramas by creating some humorous, out-of-the-ordinary scenes placed side by side to normal ones. I still remember the sudden smiles coming on to our faces whenever we spotted an unexpectedly funny and quirky scene within a diorama.
