Our first Christmas in the Bluegrass

Our Very Happy Christmas Tree

We had a real Christmas tree this year and it was a fresh, happy and long-living one. It was one of the last trees on the lot and Jacob picked it out. Daddy took care to put it upright, secured it to the base and watered it every morning. Daddy and Mommy draped colorful strings of Christmas light around it and the whole family lovingly adorned it with ornaments.

We had such happy cozy family time around that glowing tree of ours, day and night. The tree smelled wonderful since the first moment it came home. When we walked past it during the days and stared at it during the evenings, it gave out such sweet smell and beautiful sight that we felt a lot of joy in this holiday season.

Christmas at Grammies with Auntie Karen and Uncle Jon

We were thrilled that Auntie Karen and Uncle Jon could come to Kentucky to celebrate Christmas with us. After all, Christmas is truly about being with your families. They bought such nice gifts to us all and we had such fun time together eating, opening gifts and laughing at “Mr. Bean” at Grammie’s house in Nicholasville. Only if Christmas could come more than once a year!

Christmas at Our Home

Lam woke up one rainy morning and really felt like putting up Christmas decorations in the apartment. It was just the right time for more colors around the home and for the holiday cheer. We were lucky that Grammie could share with us some of her Christmas décor items. Our spirit lifted after the decorations came up.

For Christmas entertainment this year, we all sat around munching popcorn and watching the Nutcracker ballet, Carmen opera and Star Wars movies. Again, only if Christmas could come twice a year!

Our Christmas day was so cozy, fun and memorable. Jacob and James woke up early and marveled at the gifts surrounding our tree. Mom and Dad were so excited to see Jacob and James’ surprise and delight in their gifts.

We roasted a whole duck and it turned out so savoury. The meat lasted us several days. It was such an abundant Christmas! It is such a treat now to relive all those warm, happy memories in the midst of these freezing remaining winter months!!

About David and Lam

A smitten couple and loving parents in our early 40s. We have lived in 3 different countries together. We dream of living in a fourth country together after our children grow up. We love long walks in the woods, climbing mountains, boating, traveling, reading, and being together. Both David and Lam are old souls who love quietness and meaningful conversations in which we ponder the truth and mysteries of life as well as discuss philosophical and ethical matters. We especially like to enjoy the small pleasures of daily life.
