View from our lodge balcony
Our lodge room has 2 queen beds, 1 big bathroom with a separate sink area, 1 big older TV, a spacious drawer chest, 1 conversation corner with 2 small arm-chairs, and 1 loud air conditioner. The walls are made of all neat long wood panels, which radiate a warm feeling for those surrounded by them. The room is in excellent condition. Our balcony is quite big so that all 4 of us could hang out there together and enjoy the view of the Barren River. The view from our balcony is so serene and restful until one of those fast speed boats would zoom past showing off their engine “prowess.” All 4 of us would sit around and eat on our balcony. Jacob loved shooting the bugs with his water gun. James loved observing what was happening on the ground from there.
It was awesome to have woken up to such a beautiful view on Sunday morning when the sunshine was softly golden and the air was still pleasantly cool. We saw a doe eating grass, so David and Jacob went to the ground to track him/her. The doe stared them right in the eyes, having got used to people staying there by then.
Walking down to the river
Fishing at dusk
The colors of nature at dusk are so soothing, dreamy even.
A glorious sunset
The colors of the sky at sunset are most striking.
A walk in the woods
We love nature and want to instill this love in Jacob and James. We wish for our boys to prefer seeing the sunrise and sunset to watching TV. We have not been cable TV watchers up to now and want to remain so. We would rather play with our boys outside or talk to each other than watch TV.
David especially loves the woods and the utter, noble solitude it provides. He said once that “The forest is the church of nature.” By this definition, we are the pilgrims.
The forest here is so ethereal, quite different from the trees in North Carolina or in Central Kentucky. The trees are really tall, with smaller leaves and rather straight branches. The sunshine filtering through the forest layers and reflecting on some of the bigger leaves are amazing.
