Best Ocean Song Ever

I miss the sea.

I miss the sea.

Born and raised in a coastal country, our extended family would go to the ocean every year. One of my aunts is an elementary school teacher. Every year her school would hire a bus to take the teachers and their families to the sea for the day. Before an ocean trip, I could never sleep well for the anticipation. We would always have so much fun! Best childhood memories of mine happened by the sea.

I usually feel soothed, stimulated and playful by the sea. The waves, ocean wind and vista are such powerful natural forces that bring awe to my senses. The ocean also makes me feel more romantic. My husband and I had our first date on the beach, walking along the shore, talking and singing. Not many other experience could match that in romantic degree.

Perhaps I would feel differently about the ocean if my husband were a fisherman or if I had experienced hurricanes or tsunamis. But that’s the subject of another post altogether.

This song “La Mer”, originally sung by Charles Trenet, or “Beyond the Sea” as sung by Bobby Darin is the BEST ocean song ever. When I hear this song, I look out my kitchen window and for one moment see the ocean instead of Naomi’s house across the street.

Happy Saturday!

About David and Lam

A smitten couple and loving parents in our early 40s. We have lived in 3 different countries together. We dream of living in a fourth country together after our children grow up. We love long walks in the woods, climbing mountains, boating, traveling, reading, and being together. Both David and Lam are old souls who love quietness and meaningful conversations in which we ponder the truth and mysteries of life as well as discuss philosophical and ethical matters. We especially like to enjoy the small pleasures of daily life.
