For my birthday this year, we drove to Pine Mountain State Resort Park near Pineville, KY and stay overnight in a 1- bedroom cabin in the woods. The trip worked out to our greatest delight!
It was winter wonderland when we arrived– the trees, the roofs and the grounds were all covered with white snow. Jacob was ecstatic with the anticipation of throwing snow balls and treading in the snow. Born early March, he is definitely a winter baby.
Inside the cabin, Daddy made a fire and we all helped stoking it from time to time. Jacob and James were absorbed in playing with snow outside the cabin until dark. After dark, we dried our mittens and shoes by the fire, ate our take-along dinner, read our books and basically enjoyed each other’s company.
The next morning was a beautiful morning. As we usually do on our state park trips, we took a hike through the woods. The air was cool, crisp, fragrant and invigorating. We were treated to the rustling leaves underfoot and the falling snow from tree branches all around us. We became fascinated with moss along the way as we could see them everywhere in their most vibrant greenness. What an amazing creature moss is–so small yet pretty and sturdy!
What completed my joyful birthday experience was listening to Christmas music on the car radio on the drive home. My heart sang to the anticipation of the holiday season. I decided that from this year on I will start listening to Christmas music the day after my birthday. This will help me look forward to my birthday even more.
