Active Get-away at Lake Cumberland State Park

When we headed towards Lake Cumberland State Park, we didn’t realize we were going into the boating hub of the whole of Kentucky. Our lodge balcony looked out onto the state dock containing many many many boats, some of which were really large house boats.

We ended up having a really active get-away. Jacob, James and Daddy swam at our lodge indoor swimming pool while Mommy lounged around reading Harry Potter. They started at the regular pool and moved on to the jacuzzi warm water pool. James enjoyed the warm pool. We hiked on the Lake Bluff Trail right before swimming, so the pool was refreshing for the boys.

At sunrise the next day, Daddy took Jacob fishing. They had great nature and bonding time. They saw the sun rising, a snake swimming in the river, a weird caterpillar, caught a fish and saw many chipmunks. Mommy heard an earful of their adventure when they got back.

We had breakfast right next to the lake away from the dock where the view really opened up, so that was rewarding. It’s where Lam started noticing the beautiful cloud formation and pondered cloud photography.

Before leaving, we checked out the old-fashioned game room and had a fantastic time. Jacob played a shooting game where he shot turkeys in Kansas and Pennsylvania. Mommy and Daddy discovered they really like playing table-tennis together. James couldn’t stay away from the driving game. So we had fun and lots of sweat from jumping around.

About David and Lam

A smitten couple and loving parents in our early 40s. We have lived in 3 different countries together. We dream of living in a fourth country together after our children grow up. We love long walks in the woods, climbing mountains, boating, traveling, reading, and being together. Both David and Lam are old souls who love quietness and meaningful conversations in which we ponder the truth and mysteries of life as well as discuss philosophical and ethical matters. We especially like to enjoy the small pleasures of daily life.
