They each have their own desks in their rooms, but they like to sit near each other at the dining table while doing school work. James needs to do 30 minutes of maths and 30 minutes of reading each day on Lexia (reading) and DreamBox (maths) websites. He also has Art, Music, P.E. and Library activities throughout the week. I am in charge of James’ work and have been emailing and texting all his teachers on DoJo App back and forth to report and send them completed works, artwork photos and activity videos.
Since this situation started, I have been communicating with his homeroom teacher more now than I had ever done. I also got to talk to his other teachers for the first time through email. Mrs. Dillons, James’ homeroom teacher, and family are going through a hard time because her Mom just had surgery and no one has been allowed to visit due to restricted visiting policy at the hospital.
Jacob is in charge of his own school work. He communicates with his teachers and classmates through Google classroom. His teachers would send David work files for him to print out and take home to Jacob. One time, after work, David had to look everywhere in town in vain for a protractor for Jacob. Luckily, David’s secretary came to our rescue and brought us one from her home.
Jacob is more used to his new school-at-home routine now. At first, he treated this like a vacation and procrastinated on most of his work. During the first week of staying home, he enjoyed himself tremendously by eating, reading, hanging out with his brother, and watching classic Disney movies as well as a new cartoon series. He had to work so hard to catch up during the second week and Spring break that he has learned his lesson on procrastination. He now does his school work first thing in the mornings after breakfast and after practicing martial arts with his brother. Their martial arts teacher has posted videos on facebook for all the kids to practice their moves at home so that they wouldn’t forget everything.
