My maternal Grandfather died because of cancer and my Stepfather is fighting it now. So, we decided Jacob and I could help a bit with raising money for cancer research and participate in the annual Terry Fox Run which operates globally, as well as here in Ho Chi Minh City. Click here for more info on the Run and the Terry Fox Foundation that organized it.
This past Sunday Jacob, I and around 15,000 other people participated in the Run/Walk/Ride event and we had a good time. Bi and James stayed home as it was too hot and too much of a walk for them. We talked about his ‘Grandpa Great’ as he called him and why we were helping out to raise money and awareness for other people who have cancer. Jacob wanted to stop and turn back a couple of times, but when we stopped and I asked ‘Do you want to turn around and stop walking with everyone or keep going?’ he always said ‘Keep going’. He was quite proud of himself when he finished the 5 kilometer trek (about 3 miles) and I was proud of him too. It was very hot, but we both kept going and finished together – see more photos of the Run and Jacob with his certificate for finishing below.
We had a good Thanksgiving together – a simple affair with delicious roasted chicken, real chicken gravy, roasted potatoes, sweet corn, corn bread stuffing and apple and coconut
cream pie. The pie was baked fresh by a family from Illinois that owns a coffee shop just 4 blocks from our place! They’ve been here for 12 years but we only just came across their place. They have fantastic breakfast – I recently tried their french toast, egg and bacon with coffee. It was the best I’ve had in a while (see the photo of that meal and their lovely garden outside the window where we sat below).
We took a moment at Thanksgiving to each say what we were thankful for. I was prepared to say only one thing I was thankful for, so I don’t come out of the video looking very good, but of course my lovely wife and son do!
Finally, but not least, these are a collection of photos from the Terry Fox Run, Thanksgiving and us in and around our place:
